One week after being hospitalized for blood clots in his legs and lungs, it was announced today that Brian Vickers will miss the rest of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
Casey Mears filled in for Brian Vickers last week, racing the #83 Red Bull Toyota to a 22nd place finish at Dover. Though no formal announcement has been made it is believed he will continue to drive for the remainder of the season with the possibility of bringing in a road course specialist for Sonoma and Watkins Glen.
From Yahoo Sports:
Vickers was hospitalized with chest pains during a visit to Washington, D.C., last week. Further tests discovered the blood clots, and he sat out last weekend’s race at Dover.
Vickers said on Friday that after returning to North Carolina last Saturday, he had a recurrence of chest pains and was readmitted to the hospital for two nights.
Vickers says the decision was then made for him to sit out the rest of the season.
Best of luck to Brian Vickers during his recovery and I hope to see him back next year. Vickers himself vowed to be back next year, “I do expect to be back in the car next season, and to win the Daytona 500.”
