LA JOLLA — If his pulse was racing and his heart was fluttering, Scott Piercy did a great job of camouflaging his emotions and controlling his vital signs, as he discussed his leaderboard-topping round on Thursday at the Farmers Insurance Open. “I’m pretty chill, anyway” Piercy said, by way of assessing his placid demeanor during his red-hot round.
The San Diego State graduate, a veteran of tours both major and minor, played his way into the first-round lead of the third full-field event of the season on the PGA Tour with birdies on the first three holes on the North Course at Torrey Pines.
“The days when you do this, it’s like you’re kind of floating on a cloud,” Piercy said. “The front nine was over before it even started, it seemed like.”
